What is Agility?
Agility is a wonderful sport for your dog and a great activity for the owner as well. It really fosters communication and develops a real rapport, as well as building a physically sound dog. Your pup is just at the right age to start too!

You start agility by beginning with obedience training. The dog has to be completely dependable off lead and verbally responsive to commands. He has to be well socialized around other dogs and friendly with people. We suggest that you start with obedience right away.

Although the Santa Clara Dog Training Club holds an annual agility trial, it does not teach agility classes. When you feel comfortable with the degree of control on your dog, we can refer you on to instructors in the area that may have room for agility enrollment. Agility is very popular right now and it is sometimes hard to get in a class.

Be advised that most agility classes require that your dog be over a year old and have had some prior obedience instruction. It is imperative that your dog be well socialized and respond to verbal commands off leash while working in any agility class. We suggest that your dog has attended obedience classes through the Novice level.

If you have any questions regarding your dog's competency in obedience, our instructors would be more than happy to evaluate your dog.

SCDTC does not endorse any of these training classes, but we do have students that have attended some of them. We offer this list of instructors for you to contact and evaluate on your own.
