Event Policies, Code of Conduct & Participant Agreement
By participating in any class, training session, or event held or sponsored by Santa Clara Dog Training Club, Inc. (SCDTC), participants agree to the following policies and guidelines.
Code of Conduct
SCDTC is committed to providing a positive, safe, and supportive environment for both dogs and people. All students, club members, instructors, volunteers, and guests are expected to behave in a courteous and respectful manner while attending SCDTC classes and events.
Participants agree to:
Not correct, discipline, or handle another person’s dog
Refrain from foul, aggressive, or abusive language or behavior toward people or dogs
Treat all participants, instructors, volunteers, and dogs with respect
Dog Handling & Control
For the safety of all participants and dogs:
Dogs must be kept under control at all times using a leash six feet or shorter, and/or by holding the dog by the collar when appropriate
Dogs must remain on leash inside and outside all buildings unless participating in an instructor-directed training exercise
Handlers should prevent dogs from barking excessively or disrupting class.
Dogs that may react negatively toward other dogs should have their crates covered when appropriate
Any dog displaying aggressive behavior toward another dog or person must be immediately managed to ensure safety
Dog Interactions
To ensure the comfort and safety of all dogs:
Always ask the handler’s permission before allowing your dog to approach or greet another dog
Always ask permission before greeting, petting, or offering treats to any dog
Respect each handler’s individual preferences regarding how others interact with their dog
Facility & Cleanliness
Participants are responsible for maintaining a clean training environment.
Promptly clean up after your dog, both inside and outside the training area
Dispose of waste in designated receptacles.
Enforcement
Failure to comply with SCDTC policies or this Code of Conduct may result in:
A verbal warning
Removal from a class or event
Expulsion from classes or club activities at the discretion of SCDTC leadership
Hold Harmless & Assumption of Risk
By participating in SCDTC classes or events, I agree to the following:
I agree to hold harmless and indemnify Santa Clara Dog Training Club, Inc., including its officers, instructors, volunteers, members, and representatives, from any and all liability, claims, damages, or losses arising from injury to persons or property caused by any dog brought by me to SCDTC classes or events.
I understand that participation in dog training activities involves inherent risks, and I voluntarily assume full responsibility for the conduct and actions of my dog while attending SCDTC classes or events.
Participation in SCDTC classes or events indicates acceptance of these policies.
